The language of flowers
Giving flowers can be a very personal gesture but a further dimension is implied by understanding the meaning of individual flowers.
Many of us are familiar with Shakespeare's quote 'there's rosemary, that's for remembrance…'
Persians, Greeks, Chinese and Indians have all used flowers language to symbolize emotions for centuries.
This quaint tradition seems rather coy these days, it can add an element of fun to an otherwise innocent gift of flowers or plants. The language of flowers is still observed, probably not consciously, by many brides as they make their choice of wedding bouquet.
Here are some of the most common and well known flowers by many of us and their meanings.
• Amaryllis: splendid beauty, pride.
• Bluebell: constancy, forgive and forget.
• Violet: faithfulness, modesty
• Sunflower: adulation
• Iris: flame of love
• Carnation: by the color
red 'alas for many poor hearts'
Striped: refusal
Yellow: disdain
Pink: women's love
• Tulip: by the color
Red: declaration of love
Striped: beautiful eyes
• Lilac: by the color
Purple: first emotions of love
White: youthful innocence
• Rose: symbolizes love and good fortune, by the color:
White: truth
White with pink blush:' only for thee'
Large bright pink: 'meet me by moonlight'
Single stem: simplicity
Red and white together: unity
Rosebuds: pure and lovely
Red: eternal love
I hope that you will benefit from this, and next time you want to indulge someone special by buying a bouquet of flowers, you will be aware to buy the right flowers for the right occasions…………………….
